Towngas has two gas production plants in Hong Kong located at Tai Po and Ma Tau Kok, with 79% and 21% production capacity respectively. The maximum supply capacity of the two production plants is 12.82 million standard cubic metres of gas a day.
Town gas is produced from naphtha and natural gas, with landfill gas used as heating fuel. Hydrogen makes up almost half of its composition. It is a clean, safe, and reliable gaseous fuel.
With about half the density of air, it rises and will dissipate in the air if leakages occur. A special odour has been added to town gas so that it can be detected easily.
