(4 August 2025) The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) strives to educate and inspire the next generation about sustainable development and the energy sector. This summer, Towngas partnered with B.Duck, the popular local original character, to launch its debut four-day Towngas Green Flame STEAM Summer Camp (Summer Camp). The closing ceremony served as a vibrant showcase of the young participants’ innovative projects and learning outcomes, marking the successful completion of the Towngas Green Flame STEAM Summer Camp.
Centred on four career themes—Engineer, Scientist, Inventor, and Ecologist—the Summer Camp empowered around 200 students with its innovative programme. Designed for students entering Primary 4 to 6, the camp welcomed participants from the “Towngas Green Flame Energy Scientist Programme” alongside students recruited through open enrollment. Attendees included students from numerous well-known local schools, reflecting the strong interest of Hong Kong’s youth in energy science.
This initiative adopted a fully subsidised model, enabling more students to access cutting-edge technological knowledge and inspiring innovative thinking. The camp featured a diverse and engaging programme, including interactive lectures, DIY workshops, site visits, and competitive games. Through real-world case studies shared by industry experts, students were guided to explore the scientific wonders of the environment and energy, igniting their passion for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) fields.
Mr Bien Wong, Assistant General Manager – Group ESG of Towngas shared at his welcome address that “Towngas actively supports the HKSAR Government’s youth development initiatives. As a clean and smart energy supplier, we are committed to inspiring the younger generation’s passion for science and innovation. The 'Green Flame STEAM Summer Camp' provides students with a valuable opportunity to engage directly with industry experts, fostering interdisciplinary perspectives and laying a solid foundation for comprehensive development and a sustainable future.”
For years, Towngas has committed to organising a range of educational initiatives. In 2023, the Company established the Green Flame Education Team. This team comprises Towngas employees who possess specialised engineering or environmental, social and governance (ESG) knowledge. This team visits schools to deliver informative presentations on topics of future energy and climate change. As supplementary teaching materials, schools are provided with educational resources, including energy-themed learning cards and board games published by Towngas. The initiative has garnered strong support from principals and teachers, with over 8,000 students participating in the first two academic years alone.
