(29th June 2025) The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) has for many years been committed to leveraging its business advantages and strengths to care for the community, practising Junzi (Confucian ideal of noble character) business principles to the highest standards. Recently, at the 14th Junzi Corporation Awards Presentation Ceremony held by The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK), Towngas not only retained the Junzi Corporation Award but was also honoured with the HSUHK 45th Anniversary Special Junzi Corporation Award, demonstrating continued widespread recognition for the Company’s adherence to corporate ethics and active fulfilment of social responsibility.
Since 2011, The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong has advocated for the integration of business ethics with the five Junzi virtues: Benevolence, Righteousness, Propriety, Wisdom and Sincerity. The university awards the Junzi Corporation Award to companies that embody ethical business values. To coincide with the University’s 45th anniversary this year, a special award was established to recognise enterprises that have won the Junzi Corporation Award six times or more, in recognition of their business philosophy and tireless efforts to embody the five Junzi virtues. Towngas is honoured to receive this distinction.
Over the past year, Towngas has continued to creatively organise a series of activities to encourage and promote social care and inclusion. Key initiatives included making rice dumplings with “elders with emigrant children” to alleviate their loneliness; continuing to hold Mid-Autumn Festival mooncake giveaway activities whilst promoting healthy eating and environmentally-friendly celebrations; organising a series of cooking competitions for visually impaired individualts to draw society’s attention to and respect for the practical needs of the blind; and for the first time holding Lunar New Year celebration activities for transitional housing residents to bring care and blessings to grassroots families. To date, the Towngas Volunteer Service Team has provided over one million hours of service, with a cumulative number of beneficiaries exceeding 8.5 million.
Looking ahead, Towngas will continue to fulfil its corporate citizenship responsibilities, constantly demonstrating its love and care for people, society and the planet through innovative thinking, and hopes to inspire action through action, encouraging more enterprises to jointly promote sustainable development.
