Towngas to hold family fun fair with popular character B.Duck to promote youth energy education and low-carbon lifestyle
(5 October 2023) The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) is teaming up with B.Duck, a well-loved character designed in Hong Kong, to set up the Towngas Green Flame Future Lab at Central Market on 11 and 12 November (Saturday and Sunday). The edutainment event will allow the next generation to learn more about future energy development and the importance of decarbonisation. The event is open to the public and with free admission. Participants who complete specific activities at the event will also have a chance to take home some limited-edition Towngas × B.Duck merchandise!
Mr Isaac Yeung Chung-kwan, Head of Corporate ESG / Head of Corporate Affairs of Towngas, said, “In the face of the escalating severity of climate change and the frequent occurrence of extreme weather events, our society must accelerate its carbon reduction efforts in order to align with the carbon neutrality goals set by the country and Hong Kong. Towngas has made a steadfast commitment to nurturing the next generation by organising the Towngas Green Flame Future Lab. Through diverse educational activities, this initiative aims to enlighten children and youths about the pressing need for carbon reduction. By fostering and embodying eco-friendly habits from a young age, we strive in unison to create a sustainable society.”
Mr Yeung added, “In Hong Kong, there is ongoing research into the advancement of hydrogen energy, and half of the composition of town gas is made up of hydrogen. The Company is preparing to extract hydrogen directly from its pipeline network, aiming to provide Hong Kong with a highly efficient and safe hydrogen supply solution. In the Towngas Green Flame Future Lab, interactive activities will be held to educate students about the production and application of hydrogen energy in Hong Kong, allowing them to understand the latest trends in energy development.”
At the event, Towngas will showcase its treasures from its century-old collection, offering participants a captivating journey through time, where they can learn more about the rich history of Towngas, spanning over 160 remarkable years. Furthermore, participants will be delighted by the presence of adorable B.Duck installations, providing the perfect backdrop for family photo shoots. Adding to the excitement, engaging booth games, interactive exhibitions, STEAM workshops, and other activities will also be available at the event, creating an immersive experience where parents and children can play, learn, and embark on a thrilling exploration of new frontiers in the realm of energy.
The Towngas Green Flame Future Lab will be set up in Central Market for two days. On the first day, 11 November, the event will welcome visitors from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
