Towngas operates over 800 projects in 29 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities on the Chinese mainland. Staffed by over 50,000 employees, these diverse ventures include smart energy, piped city-gas, upstream and midstream projects, water supply and wastewater treatment, urban waste resource utilisation, natural gas filling stations, as well as new energy exploration and utilisation.

The Group expanded its business to the Chinese mainland in 1994 with less than 5,000 customers back then. In 2002, Hong Kong & China Gas Investment Limited was set up in Shenzhen to manage the Group’s investments on the mainland. In 2007, Towngas acquired Panva Gas Holdings Limited, a Hong Kong listed company, becoming its main shareholder and changing its name to Towngas China Company Limited, with a focus on piped city-gas projects. To accelerate its business transformation and development of smart energy solutions, Towngas China Company Limited was then renamed “Towngas Smart Energy Company Limited” at the end of 2021. In addition to city-gas projects, our business scopes include renewable energy ventures like solar PV systems, smart energy management, energy storage, distributed energy systems, carbon trading and related projects, targeting zero-carbon smart industrial parks and industrial & commercial clients.
