Towngas and Housing Department partner for the first time to donate thermo ventilators to elderly public housing residents

(15 March 2026) The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) and the Housing Department (HD) have partnered for the first time to organise an initiative extending care to elderly residents living in public housing estates under the HD. With the support of the HD, Towngas is donating multifunction thermo ventilators to elderly households in need living in public housing estates, and providing free installation services. The first phase of the programme will see the donation of 700 thermo ventilators.

To enhance the quality of home life and bathing safety for the elderly, the thermo ventilators donated and installed by Towngas feature ventilation, heating, drying, and air purification functions. The total value of this initiative exceeds HK$2 million.

Ms Winnie Ho Wing-yin, Secretary for Housing of the HKSAR Government, and Mr Don Cheng Hill-kwong, Chief Operating Officer – Hong Kong Business of Towngas, officiated at the donation kick-off ceremony and distributed gift bags to over 200 elderly attendees. Mr Cheng remarked, “Towngas’s services are closely intertwined with the daily lives of the public. With the staunch support of the Housing Bureau, we are able to bring tangible warmth to the elderly. This also marks a new beginning, paving the way for numerous future collaborations to organise diverse community initiatives for elderly residents in public housing estates.”

In recent years, the HD has been actively promoting “Well-being Design”,  with “Age-Friendliness” and “Intergenerational & Inclusive Living” as its core concepts. This involves designing elderly-friendly facilities to foster a more inclusive community and enhance residents’ sense of happiness and fulfilment. Ms Winnie Ho Wing-yin, Secretary for Housing, stated in her speech, “The collaboration between Towngas and the Housing Department to donate thermo ventilators delivers practical care to elderly residents in public housing estates. This programme not only alleviates the financial burden on the elderly in acquiring home equipment but also promotes the application of gerontechnology, allowing them to enjoy a safer and more comfortable home environment.”

Ms Lam, an elderly resident living in Shek Pai Wan Estate, Aberdeen, is one of the beneficiaries of this donation programme. She shared, “Since the thermo ventilator was installed, the bathroom has become warm and comfortable for showering, keeping me from shivering. The appliance features heating and ventilation functions, making it incredibly easy and convenient to use. The bathroom is now dry, which reduces the risk of slipping, giving an older person like me greater peace of mind when bathing.”

Towngas will continue to leverage technology to promote smart home safety, care for the community, and support the HKSAR Government’s “ageing in place” policy.
