Towngas and Water Supplies Department volunteer teams join hands to prepare handmade “blessing turnip cakes” for Wang Fuk Court residents

(13 February 2026) As the Lunar New Year draws near, the community is busy preparing New Year essentials such as “fai chun” and Lunar New Year cakes. On the evening of the 24th day of the last lunar month, the Towngas Volunteer Service Team and the Water Supplies Department Volunteer Team jointly prepared handmade Chinese turnip cakes, together with New Year “fai chun” handwritten by Towngas staff, for residents of Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po who are currently residing at the Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS)’s Yue Ying Lau, sharing warmth and blessings with them. In addition, Towngas purchased turnip cakes from a local fast‑food group and distributed turnip‑cake coupons through social welfare organisations to Wang Fuk Court residents living in different districts, extending heartfelt New Year blessings.

Ms Catherine Wong Pui-yee, Towngas Head of Corporate Affairs and Government Relations and Head of Extended Business; Mr Roger Wong Yan-lok, Director of Water Supplies; and Dr Carmen Ng Ka-man, HKHS Social and Elderly Wellness Director, led the volunteer teams in making turnip cakes. Ms Catherine Wong Pui-yee said, “Towngas has always cared about the community. Every year during different festivals, we provide support to those in need and share festive food, such as rice dumplings and mooncakes. As this New Year marks the first anniversary of the collaboration between the Towngas Volunteer Service Team and the Water Supplies Department Volunteer Team, we have once again joined hands to send festive blessings and encouragement for Wang Fuk Court residents.”

Enjoying the taste of turnip cakes is a way of experiencing warmth and blessings. Each cake reflects the effort and dedication of the volunteers, who rushed to the Towngas Cooking Centre after work to make them together, adding love and care to every box of handmade turnip cake.
