Towngas joins hands with HKHS to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival by handcrafting mooncakes with rental estate residents

(24 September 2026) With the Mid-Autumn Festival approaching, the Towngas Volunteer Service Team from The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) recently joined hands with the Hong Kong Housing Society’s (HKHS) Caring Engaging Smart (CES) Team inviting 24 families from HKHS rental estates to gather at the Towngas Cooking Centre. Together, they made mini custard mooncakes, solved lantern riddles, and took commemorative photos, sharing a heartwarming and delightful festive celebration.

Under the guidance of the instructor, each family worked together to handcraft eight mini custard mooncakes, participating in every step of the process, from preparing the pastry crust and wrapping the filling to moulding and baking. The event also featured traditional lantern riddles and an instant photo session where residents penned festive blessings onto their photos, building a warm and vibrant photo wall. In addition to taking home their handmade mooncakes, participants received Mid-Autumn gift bags. Several participating residents noted that the event offered a wonderful opportunity to come together, strengthening neighbourhood bonds while bringing them the care of the community and the warmth of the festive season.

Ms Catherine Wong Pui-yee, Towngas Head of Corporate Affairs and Government Relations, and Ms Kitty Chau Shuk-king, HKHS Social and Elderly Wellness Director, were also present to lead volunteers and residents in making the mini custard mooncakes, fostering an uplifting and caring atmosphere. Ms Wong said: “We are delighted to partner once again with the HKHS CES Team this Mid-Autumn Festival. Through mooncake-making and interactive sessions, we hope to extend our festive blessings to residents of HKHS rental estates, allowing everyone to celebrate an early Mid-Autumn Festival full of laughter, warmth, and neighbourly spirit.”

Ms Kitty Chau Shuk-king, HKHS Social and Elderly Wellness Director, remarked: “The Mid-Autumn Festival is a meaningful occasion for families and neighbours to reunite. This gathering enabled residents to immerse themselves in the festive spirit through joyful interactions, fostering mutual sharing and lasting friendships. HKHS has always attached great importance to community cohesion. Looking forward, the HKHS CES Team will continue organising diverse community initiatives to promote mutual aid and cultivate a warmer, more inclusive community.”

Beyond celebrating directly with estate residents, Towngas has organised the annual Mooncakes for the Community programme since 2001, distributing festive goodwill to beneficiaries across Hong Kong’s 18 districts ahead of Mid-Autumn Festival, including the elderly, low-income families, and persons with disabilities. This year, Towngas continues to collaborate with Legislative Council Members, District Councillors, charitable organisations, and community groups to distribute over 360,000 mooncakes. Over the past two decades, more than 4.3 million mooncakes have been gifted in total. Towngas remains dedicated to working alongside community partners to bridge neighbourhoods and deliver warmth and care to every corner of the community.
