Towngas secures the Manufacturing Sector Gold Award for the sixth time alongside multiple accolades at BOCHK Corporate Low-Carbon Environmental Leadership Awards

(19 August 2025) The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) received three major accolades at the BOCHK Corporate Low-Carbon Environmental Leadership Awards, organised by the Federation of Hong Kong Industries and sponsored by Bank of China (Hong Kong). These awards recognise Towngas’ outstanding contributions in emission reduction, green innovation, and enhanced energy efficiency, highlighting achievements in the development of hydrogen energy, smart kitchen solutions, and renewable energy projects.

Towngas has won the Manufacturing Sector Gold Award for the sixth time since 2015, reaffirming its dedication to carbon reduction and sustainable innovation. With over 160 years of experience in gas transmission and operations, Towngas leverages the fact that about half of the composition of town gas consists of hydrogen. The Company has developed advanced hydrogen extraction technology and is expanding hydrogen applications in electric vehicle charging infrastructure and other sectors. Towngas is also promoting smart kitchen applications to help the food and beverage industry improve energy efficiency. Since 2021, Towngas has been expanding its renewable energy portfolio on the Chinese mainland, providing photovoltaic and energy storage technologies to commercial and industrial clients, as well as offering one-stop integrated energy solutions to support the country's carbon neutrality goals.

During the award ceremony, Mr. Don Cheng Hill-kwong, Chief Operating Officer – Hong Kong Business, remarked, “Towngas has evolved from a traditional gas utility into a new energy enterprise. We are focusing on low-carbon energy solutions across sea, land, and air sectors, supplying green methanol, hydrogen energy, and sustainable aviation fuel. In the coming two years, Hong Kong will see the launch of several hydrogen projects, including the establishment of the city’s first public electric vehicle automatic hydrogen charging system in collaboration with the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks, which was announced last month. Furthermore, Towngas will participate in the 15th National Games golf event in November this year, by providing hydrogen-powered generation solutions.”

In addition, Towngas has been recognised as the sole recipient of the Outstanding Sustainability Corporate Award 10+, in honour of its long-term dedication to sustainability. The Company also received the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Environmental Leadership Recognition Award for its renewable energy initiatives in the region, marking its second win of this honour since 2015.

Moving forward, the Company will continue to invest in clean energy development, leveraging its strengths and strategic partnerships to support the country’s “30-60” dual carbon goals and the HKSAR Government’s 2050 carbon neutrality strategy.
