In addition to its regular activities held throughout the school year, the Towngas Green Flame Energy Scientist Programme organises a variety of flagship annual events, offering students diverse learning experiences and cultivating the future talent for energy science and environmental protection.
Towngas collaborated with the E&M Young Ambassador Programme to organise the Towngas Green Flame Hydrogen City Design Competition in 2026, encouraging upper primary students to explore innovative applications of hydrogen energy in future communities. Centred on the design and creation of hydrogen city models, the Competition empowered students to unleash their creativity and showcase their visions for future low-carbon cities.
Through complimentary lessons, hands-on workshops, and site visits, participants gained a deeper understanding of hydrogen energy. They explored its diverse applications across various industries, including construction and transport, while learning about the daily operations of an energy utility and how hydrogen is applied in the real world. These experiences successfully bridged classroom learning with the development of cutting-edge clean energy technologies.
The Competition comprised two major stages. In the first stage, shortlisted teams joined hydrogen experimental workshops—where they produced hydrogen through water electrolysis—and visited Towngas Headquarters to learn about its daily operations and hydrogen initiatives. For the final stage, advancing teams competed in exciting hydrogen-powered car races and visited the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) Headquarters, further deepening their knowledge of energy science, innovation and technology before ultimately presenting their innovative hydrogen solutions alongside their handmade city models to demonstrate the diverse utility of hydrogen energy in future cities.
Through this journey, students not only deepened their understanding of green energy trends but also applied their knowledge to their city model designs, showcasing creative concepts for future low-carbon communities. To promote inclusive learning, Towngas fully sponsored all participation fees, supporting more students in pursuing energy science and STEAM education, while nurturing their interest in innovation and sustainable development.
Towngas provides complimentary lessons and workshops to help students familiarise themselves with hydrogen related knowledge.
Through hands-on assembly of hydrogen-powered model cars, students gain a practical understanding of how hydrogen fuel cells work. 
Students participate in water electrolysis experiments, producing hydrogen and generating power through fuel cells. 
Participants visit the EMSD Headquarters to study the operation of a hydrogen fuel cell street washing vehicle. Towngas partnered with the local original character B.Duck to organise the first-ever four-day Towngas Green Flame STEAM Summer Camp during the summer holiday in 2025. The Summer Camp integrated energy and sustainable development education into engaging summer programmes, enabling students to explore the possibilities of energy science and innovation technology in a fun and inspiring learning atmosphere.
Centred around four career themes, namely Engineer, Scientist, Inventor, and Ecologist, the Summer Camp was designed for students entering Primary 4 to Primary 6. It attracted around 200 students, including including students from the core Towngas Green Flame Energy Scientist Programme as well as students recruited from the public. Fully funded by Towngas, the event enabled more students to access knowledge of cutting-edge technology and inspired their creative thinking.
The four-day programme featured a wide range of activities, including interactive talks, DIY workshops, site visits, competitive games and dialogues with industry experts. Through engaging workshops such as a hydrogen model car competition, crafting DIY solar-powered windmill houses and building voice-controlled remote cars, students learnt about new energy technologies, while developing hands-on and problem-solving skills.
Participants also visited Towngas Headquarters and the E&M InnoZone of the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD). Through professional guided tours, they learnt about advanced gas technologies, new energy applications, and smart technology innovations. The Summer Camp also connected students with experts and professionals from different fields, broadening their interdisciplinary perspectives and further igniting their interest in STEAM.
The four-day Towngas Green Flame STEAM Summer Camp attracted approximately 200 students.

The Summer Camp instructors guided students through exciting out-of-classroom activities to explore our local ecosystem. 
Towngas promotes eco-living to students through the Summer Camp. Centred on the theme of biodiversity, Towngas organised the “Exploring Our Natural World” - Towngas Green Flame Parent-Child Comic Strip Competition during the 2024/25 school year. The competition aimed to encourage students and parents to express their vision for a harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature through artistic creation, while inspiring a deeper awareness of ecological conservation and environmental protection.
The Competition received an enthusiastic response from families across the city, attracting nearly 1,000 entries and reflecting a strong community awareness of nature and ecology. Following the judging process, Towngas compiled the exceptional artwork into a book, enriched with educational content such as green energy applications, Hong Kong’s diverse ecological environment, and fun facts about local wildlife. The book not only showcases the students’ creativity but also serves as a valuable supplementary material to support environmental education.
To recognise the participants’ outstanding performance and further promote the message of conservation, copies of the books were distributed to all primary schools enrolled in the Towngas Green Flame Energy Scientist Programme, supporting their on-campus environmental protection and biodiversity education. Through comic creation, students were able to explore ecological conservation through a relatable, everyday lens, helping them foster a deep appreciation for nature and adopt green living habits from an early age.
As a reward, Towngas invited the winning and shortlisted families to participate in an exclusive “Conservation Journey” at Ocean Park to experience the front line of local conservation work. Participants enjoyed close encounters with dolphins, seals, and other animals, while the Park's animal caretakers shared insights into the animals' physical characteristics, dietary habits, and daily careroutines. Ths experiential visit provided families with an in-depth understanding of Hong Kong’s scientific conservation efforts, fostering a stronger commitment to both local and global environmental protection.
Towngas invited the competition winners and finalists to participate in an exclusive “Conservation Journey” at the Ocean Park. 
Participants enjoyed close encounters with the animals at Ocean Park, while caretakers share insights into their daily duties. 
The lower primary champion’s comic featured “Gasman” as the protagonist, promoting the importance of protecting biodiversity. 
The winning comic in the Upper Primary category focused on low-carbon living, providing practical everyday tips that inspire the public to adopt greener lifestyles. 
Towngas compiled outstanding entries from the comic strip competition into a collection, distributed to schools participating in the Towngas Green Flame Energy Scientist Programme.
