Hydrogen Energy

Hydrogen is a clean energy source that emits only water during use, making it an ideal alternative fuel for transportation, power generation, and energy storage. With over 160 years of experience handling hydrogen and proven technologies for hydrogen extraction and storage, we are uniquely positioned to capitalise on business opportunities in hydrogen energy.

Hong Kong

Hydrogen constitutes approximately 50% of the town gas mix and can be easily extracted from our extensive pipeline network spanning across Hong Kong. We are actively developing projects including generating power for construction sites, and providing charging services for electric vehicles.

Additionally, Towngas has partnered with landfill operator Veolia to develop Hong Kong’s first green hydrogen project at the South East New Territories Landfill Extension in Tseung Kwan O. This initiative utilises biogas to produce green hydrogen, achieving waste-to-energy conversion.

Hydrogen blending - Weifang, Shandong

Chinese Mainland

On the Chinese mainland, Towngas complies with national requirements and explored applications for hydrogen-natural gas blending. In Weifang, Shandong, the Bringing Hydrogen into Households project – the country’s first such project to serve 100,000 customers – has been launched in 2026. Moreover, multiple industrial applications have already been developed for hydrogen-natural gas blending in locations including Jiangsu and Inner Mongolia.
