The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) was presented with the Hong Kong Awards for Industries: Innovation and Creativity Grand Award, the highest recognition in the category on 2 December. This is our second time being awarded this honour since we first received it in 2013.
Our winning entry, the Water Heater Hydropower Generator Module, conserves the energy generated by water current for appliance ignition, thereby eliminating the need for battery replacement in water heaters. This design not only enhances the customer experience, but also reduces potential environmental pollution caused by discarded batteries.
As a component of the Hong Kong Awards for Industries established in 2005, the accolades under the Innovation and Creativity category aim to promote the culture of innovation amongst the industrial and commercial sectors through recognising corporations demonstrating excellence in these aspects. The nominated products and services are assessed based on their concept and creativity, while the participating corporations are judged according to their emphasis on innovation, commercial viability, and impact.
