Towngas’ Smart Controller and Smart Meter donation programme win multiple accolades

Towngas has developed Smart Controller and Smart Meter to enhance home safety for the elderly. Moreover, we joined hands with social welfare organisations to launch the “Sending Warmth to Thousands with Smart Technology” programme, providing the devices for 10,000 Hong Kong households in need with free installations. The programme has been well-received and earned us numerous awards both in Hong Kong and overseas.

In early May, we obtained the Age-friendly Business Innovation Award under the Jockey Club Age-friendly City Partnership Scheme 2022 for our innovation to introduce convenient products and services for the elderly. Moreover, Towngas and the Hong Kong Housing Society, one of the strategic partners of the programme, were selected as a finalist of the 11th Asia Pacific Eldercare Innovation Awards, also dubbed the Oscars of the Eldercare Industry, in late May. The entry emerged as the winner of the “Innovation of The Year - Ageing-In-Place Model” in recognition of the collaboration between both parties in realising ageing in place, enabling the elderly to live in a safer home environment and enjoy cooking with peace of mind.

The Smart Controller and Smart Meter are developed by Towngas, incorporating the Internet of Things (IoT) technology. The Smart Controller can be installed as an add-on to the user’s existing appliance, so they can monitor the appliance with their mobile phones and turn it off remotely anytime, anywhere. It can also be connected to eight mobile devices simultaneously, allowing the elderly and their carers to monitor the appliance, making it suitable for elderly people with mild cognitive impairment and their carers. The Smart Meter, on the other hand, is equipped with an automatic meter reading reporting function, eliminating the need for the elderly to report meter readings. Additionally, when abnormal usage or leaks are detected, the Smart Meter can automatically cut off the gas supply, further ensuring home safety.
