At the ESG Symposium held on 11 November 2022, Towngas published the Climate-related and Nature-related Directive Guide in response to the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) framework to review and disclose the ecological and biodiversity impacts, as well as the risks and opportunities arising from the operations of Towngas and its subsidiary, Towngas Smart Energy Company Limited, becoming the first Hong Kong company to publish this directive document. The Guide also further aligns with the recommendations of the Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) by disclosing financial information related to the potential opportunities and risks led by climate change.

Towngas was one of the first companies in Hong Kong to address the concern of climate change risks. Before the TCFD framework was announced, we already assessed the risks and opportunities of our assets in Hong Kong and on the Chinese mainland that were prone to higher risk in 2015 and 2016. The TNFD framework is expected to be launched by the end of next year, and the Climate-related and Nature-related Directive Guide published is a pilot integrated document on the Group’s response to climate and nature-related risks and opportunities, and a mid-term update of the Group’s sustainability commitments.
