Towngas Rice Dumplings for The Community Promotes Low Carbon Diet to Students

Miss Fala Chen, renowned actress, wrapped original low carbon rice dumplings and prepare low carbon mocktails with students.

The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) organized the "Low Carbon Rice Dumplings X Mocktail Workshop “ for "Towngas Rice Dumplings for The Community” event at Ling To Catholic Primary School on 25 May 2011. Renowned actress Miss Fala Chen and the Towngas Volunteer Team showed students how to save the world with the creative, low carbon festive food and warm the community in an eco-friendly way.

By teaching about 100 primary school students to wrap the colorful red bean rice dumplings, the volunteers not only passed on the culinary tradition, but also planted the concept of environmental protection in the mind of the younger generation and demonstrated that a low carbon lifestyle can be realized through low carbon diet. Instructors of the Towngas Cooking Centre also came on stage to wrap some original low carbon rice dumplings and prepare several refreshing summer mocktails. A fun-filled dumpling decoration competition was also held where students flexed their creative muscles to adorn dumplings with happy smiley faces.

On the other hand, Towngas has organized the “Low Carbon Action” campaign for several years to encourage low carbon lifestyle and a more environmentally friendly community by advocating four low carbon dietary practices: seasonably available ingredients, locally produced ingredients, more vegetables and less meat, and adequate meal portion. By wrapping low carbon rice dumplings, volunteers and students shared the delicious festive food as well as low carbon diet with the community as they celebrated a meaningful festival.

Wong Sau-ying, Head of Corporate Communications of Towngas, said, “It marks the 12th ‘Towngas Rice Dumplings for The Community’ charitable campaign. In addition to inviting volunteers from 18 districts to prepare 230,000 rice dumplings for those in need, Towngas also supplied ingredients to 56 schools to promote low carbon diet through the traditional practice, making the activity even more meaningful.”

Besides, Towngas will join hands with over 220 volunteers, including Legislative Councillors, District Councillors, members of local organizations and students of 56 kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, to wrap 230,000 rice dumplings for elderly living alone and those in need before the Dragon Boat Festival, spreading love and care around the community.

Miss Fala Chen showed her creative adorned rice dumplings and mocktail.

Wong Sau-ying, Head of Corporate Communications of Towngas, adorned dumplings with creative smiley faces with the students, filling the room with joy and laughter.

With the help of towngas volunteers, students learned how wrap low carbon rice dumplings.

Towngas volunteers and about 100 students spread the love and joy to the community with their delicious dumplings.
