Towngas supports youth development by offering mainland internship opportunities for Hong Kong tertiary students

(22 February 2024) The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) has always attached great importance to youth development. The Company has announced its ongoing commitment to supporting and participating in the Scheme on Corporate Summer Internship on the Mainland and Overseas. Under the Scheme, Towngas will offer 10 internship positions during the upcoming summer vacation, encompassing various functional departments. The initiative aims to encourage local tertiary students to work on the Chinese mainland, undergo training, and enrich their learning experiences.

The Scheme on Corporate Summer Internship on the Mainland and Overseas is a collaborative initiative between the HKSAR Government, Towngas, and other prominent local enterprises. This year, Towngas is offering internship positions encompassing city gas and renewable energy businesses, across departments such as investment management, human resources, marketing, and Engineering & Technical Centre. Selected candidates will work in Shenzhen for eight weeks from July to August. Exceptional interns may be considered for full-time employment with Towngas following the internship period.

Mr Lam Ming-wing, Head of Corporate Human Resources and Head of Corporate Safety and Environment of Towngas, said, “Towngas is actively investing resources to cultivate young talents. By organising various training programmes, we provide students with various workplace experiences. Towngas is participating in the Scheme on Corporate Summer Internship on the Mainland and Overseas for the fourth consecutive year. Over the years, the Company has trained nearly 60 students through this Scheme.”

Mr Lam continued, “Towngas has a presence in over 700 projects on the Chinese mainland, with some located in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area. Hong Kong is actively integrating itself into the development of the Greater Bay Area, and students who intern at Towngas’ positions in Shenzhen will have the opportunity to gain insights into the economic development of the Greater Bay Area and the country as a whole.” Mr Lam further stated that in response to the national 30-60 dual carbon goals, renewable energy development is rapidly expanding on the Chinese mainland. Interns working in Towngas’ renewable energy business department will have the opportunity to enhance their understanding of the relevant industry.

Towngas will bear the primary expenses for interns participating in the Scheme, including transportation and accommodation costs. Dedicated staff members will be assigned to support the interns throughout their internship. The Company will also provide a range of training courses to equip them with the skills necessary for their future careers. Mr Lam encouraged qualified tertiary students to enrol in the Scheme to gain practical insights into the functioning of an enterprise, experience different working cultures in various locations, and broaden their horizons.
