Towngas × HKMA ESG Symposium attracts over 5,000 online and offline participants

Towngas partnered with the Hong Kong Management Association (HKMA) to host the ESG Symposium 2022 on 11 November, which attracted over 5,000 participants from Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland and other countries/regions, both online and offline. Mr Tse Chin-wan, the Secretary for the Environment and Ecology of the HKSAR, was invited to be the Officiating Guest at the Symposium. Over 20 other guests from various sectors, such as public utilities, finance and investment, social welfare and corporate governance, were also at the Symposium to give keynote speeches and participate in panel discussions on the hottest ESG-related topics.

At the Symposium, Mr Peter Wong Wai-yee, the Managing Director of Towngas, announced the publication of the Climate-related and Nature-related Directive Guide, making Towngas the first Hong Kong company to publish a directive document in response to the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) framework. Mr Wong remarked in his welcome speech, “The local and international capital markets are increasingly concerned with ESG issues, and Towngas and Towngas Smart Energy have long been working on incorporating ESG concepts to foster sustainability of our businesses. ESG provides a framework for us to improve our risk management. We have organised this ESG Symposium to cover a comprehensive range of environmental, social and governance issues, with a view to discussing ESG as a whole.”
Mr Tse Chin-wan, the Secretary for Environment and Ecology, remarked that achieving carbon peak and carbon neutrality are the top priorities of the Country’s goals and policies. Hong Kong has published The Climate Action Plan 2050 with four major decarbonisation strategies outlined. To achieve carbon neutrality, a cross-sectoral collaboration between the Government, corporates, individuals, academics, and the professional community through innovation, technology, and talent retention.
