Towngas Rice Dumplings for the Community
Towngas’signature social initiative, the annual Rice Dumplings for the Community programme, has run for more than 16 years during the Dragon Boat Festival to show our care for the needy. This year, Towngas organised a series of events, including In-school rice dumpling fundraising, delivery of rice dumplings, online photo sharing and “Wrapping in the Dark” workshops, to promote the culinary heritage of wrapping rice dumplings and foster social harmony.
Wrapping and Distributing Rice Dumplings in Different Districts
Towngas collaborated with about 220 Legislative Councillors and District Councillors, together with over 25 local organisations to recruit volunteers throughout Hong Kong to wrap and distribute 330,000 rice dumplings for the elderly living alone and the needy.
On 5 June, Towngas Voluntary Service Team and Akina Fong visited the visually impaired elderly in Kowloon Home for the Aged Blind. Volunteers brought along the rice dumplings and played games with the elderly to celebrate the festival.
On 4 June, Towngas volunteers joined with over 200 volunteers from the Central and Western District and The University of Hong Kong Staff Association to wrap about 3000 rice dumplings for the needy.
