Towngas Honoured with "2010 Hong Kong Occupational Safety & Health Awards"

At Towngas, safety is our top priority. We are committed to providing customers with a safe and reliable gas supply, enhancing our safety performance, and applying innovative technology to improve occupational safety. Our continuous efforts in this direction received industry recognition recently when we were honoured with the "2010 Hong Kong Occupational Safety & Health Award".

Co-organised by the Occupational Safety & Health Council, relevant government departments, trade unions, chambers of commerce and trade organisations, the "Hong Kong Occupational Safety & Health Award" extends across different industries in Hong Kong. Its objective is to recognise and commend organisations with outstanding performances in occupational safety. This year, over 340 teams competed in eight categories for the winning awards. Our Riser Inspection Robot, which was developed in-house by Towngas employees, received the "Safety Enhancement Program Award – Gold" and "Best Presentation Award – Silver", while our "Sustainable Development Report" also received the "OSH Annual Report – Gold Award".

As gas risers are installed on the exterior wall of a building, technicians either have to enter the customers' premises or make use of bamboo scaffolding to carry out regular safety inspections. The newly designed Riser Inspection Robot, which includes CCTV and a gas leakage detector, not only enhances the efficiency of riser inspections, it also reduces the risks of working at a height, protecting the safety and health of technicians, customers and the public.

Our Towngas Sustainability Report provides comprehensive and detailed information on our corporate management, environmental protection, safety & health, as well as our social responsibility performances. The Report, compiled in line with GRI’s Sustainable Development Report Guide, complies with recognised criteria worldwide. We also interviewed different stakeholders – customers, contractors, green groups, etc, to gain a better view of their expectations with regard to the Report, so that improvements could be made. Protecting the environment, we only produce a summary of the Report on paper. The full Report is posted on the Internet for interested browsers.
