Towngas brings warmth in cold weather by giving away hot meals and soup to individuals in need

(24th January 2024) With the recent sharp drop in temperature, the Hong Kong Observatory has again issued a Cold Weather Warning today. In response, The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) has partnered with the voluntary organisation Food For Good to produce over 200 hot meals. These, along with pots of hot soup from Towngas, have been given away to community members in need.

The Towngas Volunteer Service Team (TVST) arrived at Food For Good’s Community Kitchen in Wong Tai Sin early in the morning to assist in preparing the hot meals. Additionally, the volunteers prepared Towngas’ care packs, which included hot soup, vacuum flasks, and Chinese New Year couplets. These have been distributed, together with the hot meals, to individuals in need in the district. The aim was to provide them with appropriate support during the cold weather. Brother Ming, one of the meal box and care pack recipients, expressed his gratitude, saying, “I am thankful to the volunteers for braving the cold weather to give away meals and care packs. It warms my heart to be able to enjoy a hot meal and soup.”

Ensuring safety by offering free testing of Personal Emergency Link for seniors

In addition to sending warmth during the cold winter, Towngas has continuously prioritised the quality of life for the elderly. Since 2004, the Company has collaborated with the Senior Citizen Home Safety Association to offer free testing of Personal Emergency Link devices, which provide the Care-on-Call service, during their technicians’ regular safety inspections at the elderly’s homes. This ensures that the devices are functioning properly. Given the recent cold weather, apart from checking the Personal Emergency Link devices, technicians also remind the elderly to stay warm and take necessary measures to protect themselves from the cold.
