Futian, Shenzhen and Towngas announce strategic cooperation with establishment of new Towngas Energy Academy base

(26 February 2023) On 21 February 2023, the People’s Government of Futian District, Shenzhen, and The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) signed a cooperation agreement for the Towngas Energy Academy and Towngas Digital Intelligence Energy Technology Company Limited to settle in the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Cooperation Zone in the Loop in Futian, Shenzhen. The two parties also held an inauguration ceremony for the Towngas Energy Academy, signalling the start of closer cooperation between Shenzhen and Hong Kong in science and innovation.
 
Mr Peter Wong Wai-yee, the Managing Director of Towngas, expressed his delight at the Towngas Energy Academy becoming the first clean energy application research institute established by a Hong Kong-funded enterprise in Shenzhen. “I hope the Academy will create an innovation ecosystem through applied research, technological breakthroughs, achievement industrialisation, technological financing, and technology talents to promote energy technology innovation and to help Shenzhen’s industrial transformation and upgrading, realising the high-quality development of a green and low-carbon economy.”
 
The Towngas Energy Academy, established by Towngas and Towngas Smart Energy Company Limited, has been actively engaged in the research and development of cutting-edge clean energy technologies and industrial investment incubation. As the first Hong Kong-funded research institute for clean energy applications in Shenzhen, the Academy will leverage the settlement in the Cooperation Zone to actively nurture top-tier research talents and use the Company’s 200 smart energy projects on the Chinese mainland as a platform to focus on five major research and development areas of hydrogen energy, energy storage, energy digital intelligence, renewable energy, and low-carbon energy saving, so as to promote the enhancement of technological innovation capabilities and cultivate new sources for economic growth in Shenzhen and Hong Kong. On the other hand, Towngas Digital Intelligence Energy Technology Company Limited, mainly focusing on the research and development of energy digital intelligence, will independently engage in solar photovoltaic management, charging management, energy & carbon management, smart operation & maintenance, virtual power plants and integrated digital intelligence service business, and strive to become a leading digital intelligence service provider in the energy industry.
 
Looking forward, Towngas will further strengthen its research capabilities and digital intelligence innovation in the field of new energy to facilitate energy development and environmental protection in the country.
