Collaborating with Hong Kong Anti-Cancer Society on “Celebrity Therapeutic Cuisine Cooking Class”

According to the latest statistics, Hong Kong’s number of new cancer cases reached a record high in 2019. Amongst them, new incidents of lung cancer rose by 6.2 per cent year on year, surpassing colon cancer as the most common cancer in Hong Kong once more since 2012, with 57 per cent of cases in the fourth stage by the time they are diagnosed. It is also the deadliest type of cancer in Hong Kong.

As November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month, Towngas organised the “Celebrity Therapeutic Cuisine Cooking Class” in collaboration with Hong Kong Anti-Cancer Society to raise awareness and alert the public of lung cancer.  Led by Towngas Cooking Centre instructor Pauline, the event introduced a seasonal therapeutic dish made of ladybell root, angular Solomon's seal, fish and Japanese yam that is good for the lungs, making it ideal for participants from Hong Kong Anti-Cancer Society to share with their family.  Prof. Liu Yulong from the School of Chinese Medicine of Hong Kong Baptist University also shared therapeutic cuisine that helps prevent cancer as well as tips on mixing and matching foods with different characteristics to improve health.

Towngas volunteers accompanied carers of cancer patients to the cooking class held on 6 November.  Not only were the carers able to take a break and relieve their pressure through cooking, the volunteers also gained the opportunity to learn about therapeutic cuisine for cancer prevention.
