Towngas was honoured with the Gold Award of "BOCHK Corporate Environmental Leadership Awards"
Towngas was honoured with the Gold Award in manufacturing sector of “BOCHK Corporate Environmental Leadership Awards” in recognition of our contribution to environmental protection. The Awards were presented by Federation of Hong Kong Industries and Bank of China (Hong Kong) on 2 June.
Towngas is always committed to environmental protection. We not only use clean natural gas and low-sulphur naphtha as the feedstock for town gas production, but also turn waste into energy by utilising landfill gas as heating fuel in production process in order to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases and improve air quality.
Furthermore, we make use of old cast iron pipes as the host pipes for renewing gas pipes by the trenchless technology, thus reducing time and cost of the construction works while avoiding waste generation and carbon emission by 90 and 60 per cent respectively. We have also installed oil-free variable speed water-cooled chillers at North Point headquarters which helps lower electricity consumption of the chiller system by 46.5 per cent, i.e. saving more than 1,000,000 kwh every year.
